NEW YORK, January 9, 2020 – The high level of anticipation for the 113th NYRR Millrose Games, scheduled for Saturday, February 8th, continues to build with the announcement of each event. A major highlight of the historic meet will be the women’s 60-meter dash with Allyson Felix, arguably the most accomplished athlete in track and field, taking on a field that includes four additional Olympians.

“Being able to run at Millrose has been something exciting for me throughout my career,” Felix said. “I love the energy, the crowd, and being able to meet the young athletes who are the future of this sport. I cannot wait to start off my final Olympic campaign in New York City at the Millrose Games.”

Felix is a six-time Olympic gold medalist and 13-time world champion.

After giving birth to her daughter in November 2018, Felix returned to competition this past season, winning a gold medal on the mixed 4x400m relay at the Doha World Championships to surpass Usain Bolt as the most decorated athlete in the history of the sport.

While Felix trains for the Tokyo Summer Olympics, after the birth of her daughter Camryn, she has embraced her multiple roles as one of America's greatest athletes, a devoted mother and an activist to support women athletes who have children. Away from sports, Felix also supports initiatives to improve women’s quality of life throughout the world.

Felix is hoping to compete in the Olympics one final time this year, and Millrose will be the first stop on her road to Tokyo.

Felix will face plenty of competition, led by Teahna Daniels, the 2019 USA champion in the 100 meters. Daniels had a breakout season in 2019, dipping under the 11-second barrier with a personal best of 10.99, before making the final in Doha where she finished seventh. Joining this outstanding field is Morolake Akinosun, a former four-time NCAA champion. Akinosun also won an Olympic gold medal on the Rio 4x100m relay, competing alongside Felix for Team USA.

Two athletes with ties to the tri-state area also will contend, including defending Millrose champion English Gardner. Gardner, another member of the victorious relay team in Rio, became the seventh-fastest woman in history that year, running 10.74 in the 100m. A series of injuries nearly derailed her career, but Gardner returned to the track in style at the Millrose Games last year, winning the 60m in a personal best of 7.10. Queens native and Armory regular Deajah Stevens, a former NCAA champion who competed in the 200m at the Rio Olympics, will add additional track & field royalty to this amazing field.

An intriguing name to watch is Briana Williams, who is the 2018 world junior champion in both the 100m and 200m. Only 17, Williams lowered her 100m personal best to 10.94 in 2019, setting the under-18 world record. Coached by sprinting legend Ato Boldon, Williams will be looking to make noise against a Millrose Games field with plenty of experience.

The NYRR Millrose Games is the most storied event in indoor track and field. Stay tuned for more announcements, as the remaining athletes and fields for this year’s event will be unveiled in the coming weeks.

Already announced is a thrilling shot-put duel between 2016 Olympic gold medalist Ryan Crouser and 2019 World Championships gold medalist Joe Kovacs, as well as:

● Olympian and 2018 champion Chris O’Hare of Great Britain, 2017 champion Eric Jenkins of the United States, four-time Olympian Nick Willis of New Zealand, and world championship medalist Filip Ingebrigtsen of Norway who all will headline a talented NYRR Wanamaker Mile men’s field;

● World champion and American record-holder Donavan Brazier and defending NYRR Millrose Games champion and NCAA record-holder Michael Saruni in the men’s 800m;

● World record-holder Keni Harrison, who will open her season in the 60m hurdles;

● Newly-crowned NCAA Cross Country champions Edwin Kurgat (Iowa State University), Weini Kelati (University of New Mexico) in the men’s and women’s 3,000m respectively, along with 2016 Rio Olympic silver medalist Paul Tanui and women’s defending NYRR Millrose Games champion Alicia Monson (University of Wisconsin).

The Millrose Games moved to The Armory’s New Balance Track & Field Center in Washington Heights in 2012 after having called Madison Square Garden home from 1914 to 2011. The Games – established by employees of Wanamaker’s Department Store – features track and field’s most prolific male and female stars as well as collegiate, high school, club and youth competitors.

More than 200 athletes share the distinction of being both Millrose and Olympic champions. In November of 2013, the New York Road Runners became the title sponsor of the NYRR Millrose Games, which is owned by The Armory Foundation. The NYRR Millrose Games is a USATF television series event, and The Armory Foundation appreciates the support of USA Track & Field.

The Armory Foundation is proud to host the dozens of Olympians and world champions who will test their talents once more at The Armory. With highest-level competition at the youth, high school, collegiate, club and professional levels, there is truly something for everyone at the NYRR Millrose Games.

Stay tuned throughout January to see which athletes will attempt to top last year’s feats, as fields for each event will be announced on a rolling schedule.

Mike Frankfurt to Receive The Armory Presidents’ Award During 113th NYRR Millrose Games

Mike Frankfurt to Receive The Armory Presidents’ Award During 113th NYRR Millrose Games

Mike Frankfurt to Receive The Armory Presidents’ Award During 113th NYRR Millrose Games

NEW YORK, January 8, 2020 – Armory Foundation Co-Presidents Rita Finkel and Jonathan Schindel proudly announce that long-time Armory Board Chair and supporter Michael P. Frankfurt will receive The Armory Presidents’ Award, recognized for unparalleled contributions to both The Armory and to the sport of track & field.

Frankfurt will be recognized during the 113th NYRR Millrose Games on Saturday, February 8th at The Armory’s New Balance Track & Field Center.

Last year, United States Track & Field CEO Max Siegel and COO Renee Washington received The Armory’s Presidents’ Award.

“We are delighted to be awarding Mike this award for all he has contributed to The Armory in the last 25 years,” said Armory Foundation Co-President Rita Finkel. “As Chairman of the Board, Mike has been unwavering in his support for the work we do, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars through the years along with sharing his calm, good humor and steady wisdom.”

In the early 1990s, Frankfurt worked alongside his long-time friend and running partner Dr. Norbert Sander Jr. The two were true visionaries, and against all odds they transformed the dilapidated Armory in Washington Heights into a world-class facility and now the world’s busiest indoor track & field facility. Dr. Sander was the first President of The Armory Foundation until his passing in March of 2017.

“I was fortunate when Norb Sander asked me to partner with him to bring The Armory back for our track and field kids,” Frankfurt said. “We did it together. Thank you, Norb.”

Today, The Armory is home to more than 100 track & field meets during the indoor season including the NYRR Millrose Games, the most prestigious indoor track meet in the world. Other track meets at The Armory include the New Balance Nationals Indoor, the de facto national high school championships and many track meets for youngsters, high school, college, pro and adult athletes.

In addition to all that happens on the fabled Armory track, as Chairman of the Board of the Armory Foundation, Frankfurt oversaw the expansion and stellar success of the Armory College Prep program. For the past three years 100 percent of the high school seniors in the unscreened Armory College Prep program were accepted into four-year colleges, with grants and academic scholarships to make a college degree a reality. Today, The Armory’s after-school educational programs for children from underserved communities begin at 5th grade.

Back on the track, The Armory operates CityTrack, Little Feet and Tiny Feet – free after-school youth programs that benefit middle-school and elementary-school aged children from Washington HeightsInwood and Harlem – and is home to the National Track & Field Hall of Fame.

“The Armory welcomes hundreds of thousands of visits year after year from young student-athletes who relish the opportunity to run, jump and throw on such a historic and welcoming track,” Armory Foundation Co-President Jonathan Schindel said. “None of this would have been possible without Mike Frankfurt’s intellect and determination. Mike has asked that we celebrate by asking for donations to the Norbert Sander Legacy Fund, which will ensure that the beautiful facility that Norbert Sander and Michael Frankfurt created will be enjoyed by generations of young athletes and students in the future.”

Frankfurt is a senior partner and founding partner of New York’s Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz, one of the pre-eminent media and entertainment law firms in the United States. He is a life-long advocate of running and track & field and is currently Chairman of the Armory Foundation’s Board of Directors, Director and Secretary of the New York Road Runners’ Board of Directors, Director of the Hunter College Foundation, member of the Hunter College Athletes Hall of Fame, Chairman of The Creative Coalition, and member of both the USATF Hall of Fame Committee and Millrose Athletic Association.

New York, January 7, 2020 – Olympian and 2018 champion Chris O’Hare of Great Britain, 2017 champion Eric Jenkins of the United States, four-time Olympian Nick Willis of New Zealand, and world championship medalist Filip Ingebrigtsen of Norway will headline a talented NYRR Wanamaker Mile men’s field at the 113th NYRR Millrose Games on Saturday, February 8 at The Armory’s New Balance Track and Field Center.

The signature event at the NYRR Millrose Games has taken place every year on the men’s side since 1926 and will be broadcast live nationally on NBC for the fourth consecutive year from 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. ET, in addition to streamed live online on NBC Sports Gold.

“Already one of the greatest mile races in the world, the men’s 2020 NYRR Wanamaker Mile is expected to be one of the best with past champions, Olympians, and rising stars all lining up in front of a national audience,” said NYRR Millrose Games Meet Director Ray Flynn.

O’Hare won the 2018 NYRR Wanamaker Mile after building an insurmountable lead on the last lap and crossing the line in 3:54.14. In New York, he has also finished as runner-up at the New Balance 5th Avenue Mile three times, most recently in 2018. The Scotland native represents Great Britain on the world stage, having won a bronze medal in the 1500 meters at the European championships and competing in the event at the Rio 2016 Olympics.

“I have always loved having the NYRR Millrose Games and the NYRR Wanamaker Mile in my racing schedule,” O’Hare said. “When you look back at the athletes who have competed in the NYRR Wanamaker Mile, it goes to show the nature of the event. It is without a doubt, the most prestigious indoor mile race in the world and I can’t wait to step on the start line and go to battle with my fellow competitors.”

Jenkins won the 2017 NYRR Wanamaker Mile in a last-lap sprint against Olympic 800-meter bronze medalist Clayton Murphy. The year prior in New York, he narrowly defeated Olympic 1500-meter champion Matthew Centrowitz to win the New Balance 5th Avenue mile by one-tenth of a second. Last year, Jenkins finished third in New York at the USATF 5 km Championships in Central Park.

Willis has finished as runner-up at the NYRR Wanamaker Mile three times (2009, 2015, 2016), was third twice (2008, 2014) and took sixth last year. As a four-time Olympian, the University of Michigan graduate and Ann Arbor, MI resident won the silver medal in the 1500 meters at the Beijing 2008 Games, carried New Zealand’s flag at the London 2012 Opening Ceremony, and returned to the podium with a bronze medal in the 1500 meters at the Rio 2016 Games. In 2019, he won a record-breaking fifth men’s title at the 5th Avenue Mile, adding to his previous victories on Manhattan’s most famous thoroughfare from 2008, 2013, 2015, and 2018.

Ingebrigtsen coached by his father, Gjert, won the 1500-meter European title in 2016 and a world championship bronze medal in the distance in 2017.

NEW YORK, December 18, 2019  The 113th NYRR Millrose Games will take place on Saturday, February 8th, and one of the most anticipated races of the day will be the men’s 800-meter run. This race figures to be a showdown between world champion and American record-holder Donavan Brazier and defending Millrose champion and NCAA record-holder Michael Saruni.

“The rematch of Donavan Brazier and Michael Saruni may be one of the highlights of the indoor season,” Armory Foundation Co-President Jonathan Schindel said. “But anything can happen with so many of the world’s best 800-meter runners back at the NYRR Millrose Games.”

The historic NYRR Millrose Games takes place at The Armory’s New Balance Track & Field Center and will feature dozens of Olympians and world championship contenders as they look toward the 2020 Tokyo Olympics next summer.

After a dream season in 2019, Brazier has established himself as arguably the best 800m runner in the world. At Millrose last year, Brazier began his campaign by running an indoor American record of 1:44.41. He followed that performance with an indoor world best over 600m at the USATF Championships. Outdoors, Brazier collected another U.S. championship before claiming the Diamond League trophy in Zurich with an epic come-from-behind victory over Nigel Amos. Brazier then capped his season in style, destroying the field at the World Championships in Doha to win the gold medal, running 1:42.34 to break Johnny Gray’s 34-year-old American record in the process.

“After a successful 2019 season, I’m looking forward to running at the Millrose Games for the fifth year in a row,” Brazier said.

Brazier’s primary competition will come from Saruni, the man who bested him at Millrose in 2019. Saruni blasted a 1:43.98 in that race, making him the second-fastest indoor performer at all time. Despite being hampered by an injury outdoors, Saruni still managed a season best of 1:43.70 in Monaco. His personal best of 1:43.25 still stands as the NCAA record, and the 24-year-old Kenyan will surely be a threat.

Joining the field is 2019 breakout star Bryce Hoppel. The former University of Kansas standout won both the indoor and outdoor NCAA 800m titles during a 21-race winning streak. Hoppel went on to place third at USAs to punch his ticket to Doha, where he exceeded all expectations by finishing fourth in a personal best of 1:44.25. Entering 2020, Hoppel will look to establish himself as a medal contender in Tokyo with a strong performance at Millrose.

Isaiah Harris, another former NCAA champion who starred at Penn State, will be in the race. Harris competed at the 2017 World Championships, and he will attempt to reclaim that form heading into the Olympic year. Rounding out the field is the reliable veteran and Millrose stalwart Erik Sowinski. Sowinski is a former world indoor bronze medalist, and one of the most consistent middle-distance runners in the world, especially indoors.

The NYRR Millrose Games is the most storied event in indoor track and field.

More athletes and fields will be announced for the NYRR Millrose Games in the coming weeks. Already announced is a thrilling shot put duel between Ryan Crouser and Joe Kovacs, as well as world record-holder Keni Harrison opening her season in the 60m hurdles and newly-crowned NCAA Cross Country champions Edwin Kurgat (Iowa State University), Weini Kelati (University of New Mexico) in the men’s and women’s 3,000m respectively along with 2016 Rio Olympic silver medalist Paul Tanui and women’s defending NYRR Millrose Games champion Alicia Monson (University of Wisconsin).

The Millrose Games moved to The Armory’s New Balance Track & Field Center in Washington Heights in 2012 after having called Madison Square Garden home from 1914 to 2011. NCAA Champions, Olympians to Star in Stacked 113th NYRR Millrose Games 3,000m Races

NCAA Champions, Olympians to Star in Stacked 113th NYRR Millrose Games 3,000m Races

NEW YORK, December 11, 2019  The 113th NYRR Millrose Games are scheduled for Saturday, February 8th, and the distance action will be highlighted by a pair of 3,000-meter races featuring both the men’s and women’s 2019 NCAA cross country champions competing against Olympians.

Women’s champion Weini Kelati of the University of New Mexico will take on a loaded field that includes defending Millrose champion Alicia Monson of the University of Wisconsin, while men’s winner Edwin Kurgat of Iowa State University will battle Olympic silver medalist Paul Tanui, among others.

“I'm looking forward to returning to NYC and competing in the Millrose Games,” Monson said. “I totally enjoyed the whole experience last year and winning the 3k was very special. I guess I will not be the unknown collegiate athlete in the race like last year, but that makes my second appearance at the Millrose Games exciting and something to look forward to.”

The historic NYRR Millrose Games, taking place at The Armory’s New Balance Track & Field Center, will feature dozens of Olympians and world championship contenders as they prepare for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics next summer.

THE WOMEN’S 3000m: The women’s race figures to be a thrilling battle between Kelati and Monson, the two women who have distinguished themselves as the best distance runners in the NCAA.

The two runners have faced off nine times since September 2018, with Kelati holding a narrow 5-4 advantage over her rival. At the 2019 Millrose Games, it was Monson kicking to the win in a time of 8:45.97, with Kelati finishing sixth. However, in their most recent meeting at the NCAA Championships in Louisville, Ky., Kelati broke away from Monson and the field early, winning the 6,000m race in 19:47.5, and defeating the runner-up Monson by 10 seconds.

While Kelati and Monson are the big names to watch, there are several other women capable of winning this race, including Taylor Werner of the University of Arkansas, who ran faster than the 5,000-meter collegiate indoor record (15:12), running 15:11.19 at Boston University this past weekend. While that time will not be ratified as a record since Werner was competing unattached, she is certainly a name to watch out for at Millrose.

Other key competitors in the race include former NCAA steeplechase champion Allie Ostrander, Norwegian Olympian and European medalist Karoline Grovdal, former eight-time All-American Katie Mackey and Canadian Olympian Jessica O’Connell.

THE MEN’S 3,000m: Kurgat of Iowa State comes in off the momentum of his victory at NCAAs, covering the 10,000-meter course in 30:32.7 to complete an undefeated cross country season. However, the favorite in the race figures to be Tanui, a four-time global medalist for Kenya. Tanui earned silver in the 10,000m at the Rio Olympics just behind Mo Farah, and owns three bronze medals over the same distance from the 2013, 2015, and 2017 World Championships. Tanui will look to use Millrose as a stepping stone for yet another medal in Tokyo.

Other contenders to look out for include NCAA runner-up Joe Klecker of the University of Colorado, US Olympian Hassan Mead and former NCAA champion Justyn Knight of Canada. Knight, who has made two World Championship finals in the 5,000m, finished second at Millrose in 2018.

More athletes and fields will be announced for the NYRR Millrose Games in the coming weeks. Already announced is a thrilling shot put duel between Ryan Crouser and Joe Kovacs, as well as world record-holder Keni Harrison opening her season in the 60m hurdles.

World Record-Holder Keni Harrison Focused on 60m Hurdles in 113th MillRose Games

World Record-Holder Keni Harrison Focused on 60m Hurdles in 113th MillRose Games

NEW YORK, December 5, 2019 Keni Harrison, the current world-record holder in the 100m hurdles and a four-time United States champion, is scheduled to compete in the 60m hurdles at the 113th NYRR Millrose Games. The historic indoor meet, scheduled for Saturday, February 8th at The Armory, will feature dozens of Olympians and world championship contenders as they prepare for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics next summer.

“I’m excited to run my very first Millrose Games,” said Harrison. “I look forward to the competition and the enthusiastic crowd.”

Harrison is one of the most accomplished sprint hurdlers in history, setting the world record of 12.20 seconds at the London Anniversary Games in July 2016. In 2018, she added her first global title, winning the 60m hurdles at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in a meet record of 7.70. Competing against domestic fields that are often deeper in talent than at the global level, Harrison is the three-time defending USA outdoor champion. Most recently, Harrison secured her first outdoor global medal, taking silver at the IAAF World Championships in Doha, Qatar.

The NYRR Millrose Games will mark Harrison’s first time competing on the historic track at The Armory’s New Balance Track & Field Center.

Athletes competing against Harrison in the 60m hurdles include Sharika Nelvis, who in the 2018 USA Indoor Championships 60m hurdles in Albuquerque defeated Harrison with an American-record time of 7.70, Queen Claye (née Harrison), a former NCAA and Pan American Games champion, and Andrea Vargas, who finished fifth at the most recent World Championships while competing for Costa Rica.

While at Arkansas State, Nelvis won the 60m hurdles indoor in the 2014 NCAA Championships with a 7.93.

More athletes and fields for the NYRR Millrose Games will be announced in the coming weeks. Already confirmed is a thrilling rematch of October’s World Championships’ shot put final, featuring Rio Olympics gold medalist Ryan Crouser and reigning world champion Joe Kovacs.

The NYRR Millrose Games is the most storied event in indoor track and field.

Stay tuned throughout the next few months to see which athletes will attempt to top last year’s feats, as fields for each event will be announced on a rolling schedule. Visit www.nyrrmillrosegames.org or call 212-923-1803 x7200 to buy tickets.
