NEW YORK, NY, Jan. 6, 2022 – Defending champion and American record holder Elle Purrier St. Pierre leads a deep WHOOP Women’s Wanamaker Mile field in the 114th Millrose Games that includes the last two event champions, as well as all three athletes who represented the United States in the Tokyo Olympic 1500m.

The Millrose Games will take place Saturday, January 29th at The Armory’s New Balance Track & Field Center.

“I am really looking forward to racing the Wanamaker Mile this year,” Purrier St. Pierre said. “This race has always been a special one for me and I certainly missed it last year. It's one of the most prestigious and historic races, it's always fun and always competitive, just the way I like it.”

Purrier St. Pierre set her dazzling American indoor mile record of 4:16.85 at the 2020 Millrose Games, which was the second fastest time in indoor history. Since that breakout performance, she has added the American two-mile record to her resume, won the 1500m at the Olympic Trials in a meet record time, and reached the Olympic finals in Tokyo. Purrier St. Pierre will return to Millrose looking for an encore to her greatest performance.

Konstanze Klosterhalfen is the 2019 Wanamaker Mile champion and the German national record holder in nine events. She chased Purrier St. Pierre all the way to the line in the 2020 race, setting her personal best of 4:17.26. Klosterhalfen took the bronze medal in the 5000m at the 2019 World Championships, and placed eighth in the Tokyo Olympics 10,000m finals.

Also in the field are Cory McGee and Heather MacLean, who placed second and third at last year’s Olympic Trials behind Purrier St. Pierre. McGee was a 10-time All-American at the University of Florida and placed 12th in the Tokyo Olympic finals. MacLean is a four-time school record holder at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, and in 2017 became the first woman in school history to earn All-American honors in cross country.

Last year’s breakout star Josette Norris joins the mix, after a spectacular season where she broke four minutes in the 1500m and placed third in the Zurich Diamond League final. Hailing from Tenafly, NJ, Norris adds local flavor to the field.

Other major threats will be Jessica Hull, the Australian 1500m and 5000m record holder and four-time NCAA champion for the University of Oregon who reached last year’s Olympic finals where she finished 11th, along with World Championships finalist Nikki Hiltz, 3-time Stanford University All-American and 800m USATF Championships finalist Rebecca Mehra, British Olympian Katie Snowden and Spanish Olympian Ester Guerrero.

Rounding out the field is Olympic Trials fourth-place finisher Shannon Osika and both the 2021 NCAA mile and 1500m champions in Sage Hurta and Anna Camp Bennett, respectively.

Christian Coleman to Return to the Track for 114th Millrose Games to Face Trayvon Bromell in Highly Anticipated 60m Showdown

The Fastest of the Fast: Christian Coleman and Trayvon Bromell will headline the Men’s 60m at track & field’s most recognized indoor track & field meet, the Millrose Games at The Armory. Photos by John Nepolitan.

NEW YORK, NY, Dec. 28, 2021 – Christian Coleman, the 60m world record holder who has not competed in nearly two years, will return to the track during the 114th Millrose Games on Saturday, January 29th. In his first race back, Coleman will square off against Trayvon Bromell, the fastest man in the world in 2021, at The Armory New Balance Track & Field Center

This competition will be the first contested since February 2020 by the 25-year-old athlete. “I think it will be emotional to come back here and finally show my worth again,” Coleman said.

Coleman was on top of the track world in 2019, winning two gold medals at the World Championships in the 100m and the 4x100m relay. This followed his 60m world record of 6.34 seconds, that was set in February 2018.

Looking ahead, Coleman has his eyes on Usain Bolt’s 100m world record of 9.58 seconds.

“As time goes on, I think it is possible,” said Coleman, who ran a personal best of 9.76 in winning the 2019 World Championships.

Coleman mentioned he wants to be remembered as “one of the great competitors in sport.” He added: “I want people to think of me as one of the legends, one of the great sprinters who have come through the USA ranks.”

Coleman chose the Millrose Games for a return and will be highly motivated after missing the Tokyo Olympics.

Standing in the way is Bromell, who ran a world-leading 100m time of 9.76 seconds in 2021, a mark that tied him with Coleman as the sixth fastest man of all time.

Bromell was the 2016 60m world indoor champion and a Rio Olympian, leading many to project him as the successor to Usain Bolt. A series of injuries derailed Bromell’s career, but he returned with a vengeance in 2021, dominating the domestic circuit and winning the U.S. Olympic Trials.

Bromell, 26, will look to use the Millrose Games as a springboard as he hopes to take the next step against elite international competition.

“This will be my first time at Millrose and I’m looking forward to something great,” Bromell said.

Also in the field is the Jamaican Omar McLeod, the 2016 Olympic gold medal winner in the 110m hurdles, and the sixth fastest hurdler of all time. McLeod will look to test his flat speed against Coleman and Bromell before gearing up for another season of world-class hurdling.

NEW YORK, NY, Dec. 21, 2021 – Excitement continues to build for the upcoming 114th Millrose Games, scheduled for Saturday, January 29th at The Armory’s New Balance Track & Field Center. Adding to the anticipation is the Men’s 3000m which will feature eight NCAA champions and five Olympians.

“This may be one of the great races of the meet,” said Ray Flynn, Millrose Games Meet Director. “All the great young talents on the line together.”

These athletes will face off over 15 laps on the World’s Fastest Track at The Armory for a shot at Millrose glory:

  • Cole Hocker: After having previously been announced for the WHOOP Wanamaker Mile, Hocker has instead opted for the longer distance at Millrose. Hocker was last year’s NCAA mile/1500m champion indoors and outdoors for Oregon, before winning his first senior national title at the Olympic Trials. The 20-year-old phenom then went on to place sixth in the 1500m final at the Tokyo Olympics.

  • Edward Cheserek: This Oregon legend is among the most decorated athletes in NCAA history, with an astounding 17 NCAA titles to his name. At the 2019 Millrose Games, Cheserek placed second in the Wanamaker Mile.

  • Eric Jenkins: Jenkins was Cheserek’s teammate at Oregon, winning an NCAA title of his own indoors in 2015. He memorably won the Wanamaker Mile at the 2017 Millrose Games, a year where he also represented Team USA at the World Championships.

  • Drew Hunter: One of the most accomplished prep athletes ever, Hunter set the former high school indoor mile record at the 2016 Millrose Games. More recently, Hunter is coming off a big victory at this year’s USATF 5k Road Championship.

  • Conner Mantz: Mantz recently made history by winning the NCAA cross country title twice in one calendar year. The BYU three-time All-American on the track has already made his presence felt winning the USATF half-marathon championship three weeks ago.

  • Wesley Kiptoo: The Iowa State junior is the 2021 NCAA indoor 5000m champion. He also finished second behind Mantz at November’s cross country championships.

  • Yared Nuguse: Nuguse set the NCAA record over 1500m this past May, the same event in which he won the NCAA title in 2019. The Notre Dame senior also qualified to take part in the Tokyo Olympics.

  • Cooper Teare: Teare is the NCAA record holder in the indoor mile. Having just turned professional, Teare was also the 2021 NCAA outdoor 5000m champion while competing for Oregon.

  • Geordie Beamish: Beamish is the 2019 NCAA champion in the indoor mile. He was also a major contributor to the Northern Arizona cross country dynasty, helping the Lumberjacks win three straight NCAA titles from 2016 to 2018.

  • Luis Grijalva: Grijalva was Beamish’s teammate at Northern Arizona and was also a key component of three NCAA champion cross country teams in 2017, 2018, and 2021. Grijalva represented his native Guatemala in the 5000m at the Tokyo Olympics.

  • Joe Klecker: Klecker was a nine-time All-American while competing at Colorado. He made his first Olympic team this year, competing in the 10000m in Tokyo.

  • John Gay: Gay of Team Canada was a finalist in the steeplechase in the Tokyo Olympics.

“I couldn't be more excited to check off a race that I've dreamed of competing in since I first heard about it,” Cole Hocker said. “Most of the time the best part of racing has to do with the atmosphere and Millrose delivers one of the best atmospheres in all of track. I can't wait to toe the line with some of the best runners globally right now including my college teammate Cooper Teare.”

NEW YORK, NY, Dec. 14, 2021 – America’s two best pole vaulters will look to soar to new heights in New York City at the Millrose Games, as they do battle at The Armory’s New Balance Track & Field Center.

Reigning Olympic gold medalist Katie Nageotte will take on 2016 Olympic silver medalist and defending Millrose champion Sandi Morris. These two high-flying women will join dozens of other Olympians at the 114th Millrose Games, scheduled for Saturday, January 29th.

“I'm so excited to be back at Millrose this year,” Nageotte said. “It's one of my favorites meets, and a great place to jump. The competition is going to be really exciting, and I can't wait.”

Nageotte experienced a dream season in 2021, winning three Diamond League meetings in addition to her spectacular gold medal-winning performance in Tokyo. Nageotte was a two-time NCAA champion at Division II Ashland University, before truly breaking out onto the national scene in 2018. She has since added three USATF national titles to her rapidly growing resume.

Morris, a six-time USATF national champion, has been arguably the most consistent vaulter in the world since turning professional in 2015. She earned Olympic silver in Rio and backed up that performance with a pair of World Championship silver medals in 2017 and 2019. At the 2020 Millrose Games, Morris soared 4.91 meters to break The Armory’s facility record.

With a personal best of 5.00 meters, Morris is the outdoor American record-holder and the fourth-highest vaulter in history. Nageotte sits just one spot below her in fifth on the all-time list with her best of 4.95 meters.

“It is so great to have watched Katie and Sandi come into their own and to welcome them back to The Armory as the best vaulters in the world at the Millrose Games,” said Ray Flynn, Millrose Games Meet Director.

Nageotte and Morris will look to push each other higher than ever before at Millrose, as the two star vaulters are close friends as well as fierce competitors. The pole vault is always one of the most anticipated and spectator-friendly field events at the Millrose Games.

Photos by John Nepolitan.

NEW YORK, NY, Dec. 7, 2021 – One of the best races of the 114th Millrose Games will feature a memorable matchup between two of the brightest stars in American middle distance running in the Jack and Lewis Rudin Women’s 800-meter event.

Athing Mu, the 19-year-old phenom, established herself as the best in the world, and Ajee' Wilson, who has been the class of the event domestically over the past decade, will be on center stage at The Armory’s New Balance Track & Field Center on Saturday, January 29th.

Mu was dominant in 2021, going undefeated outdoors. In Tokyo, she became the first American to win Olympic gold in the 800m since Madeline Manning in 1968, smashing Wilson’s American record in the process. She added a second gold in the 4x400m relay and lowered the American record further at the Prefontaine Classic, setting the current mark at 1:55.04.

Going into 2022, Mu’s potential is limitless, and she will look to continue her record-setting ways at Millrose.

“Millrose is the ideal place to begin my season,” Mu said. “The audience brings great energy and I always look forward to the atmosphere and competing at The Armory – it's iconic.”

Last week Mu was selected by World Athletics as the 2021 World Athletics Female Rising Star. The World Athletics Female Rising Star Award is given to the top under-20 athlete of the year in the world.

Standing in Mu’s way is the venerable Wilson, a six-time Millrose Games champion who has not lost at this meet since 2013. Wilson reigned supreme at the 2020 Millrose Games, breaking her own indoor American record with a time of 1:58.29.

Wilson has amassed 11 U.S. championships over the course of her career, earned two World Championship bronze medals, and anchored Team USA to a world record in the 4x800m relay at the 2018 Millrose Games.

“It's been a while,” Wilson said, referring to last season’s cancelled Millrose Games due to the pandemic, “so I'm super excited to return to The Armory for the Millrose Games.”

Adding to the intrigue is the fact that both athletes are local products, with Mu hailing from Trenton, NJ, and Wilson from Neptune, NJ. Their tri-state area roots, along with their explosive talent, will make this edition of the women’s Millrose 800m one to remember.

Jamaica middle-distance sensation and Olympian Natoya Goule-Toppin will join Mu and Wilson to add star power in this Millrose Games signature race. Goule-Toppin is one of the top three ranked athletes in the world and is a Pan American Games gold medalist.

“We are so fortunate that Olympic Gold medalist Athing Mu is joining us to compete against Ajee' Wilson, who set the American record at the last Millrose Games,”' Armory Foundation Co-President Jonathan Schindel said.  “With Jamaican Natoya Goule, a Tokyo Olympic finalist in this event, the Jack & Lewis Rudin women's 800 will be one of the most exciting events at the Millrose Games, a race that most of us can't wait to watch."

This marks the third consecutive time the Rudin Family has sponsored the women’s 800m at the Millrose Games.

The Rudin family has a long and distinguished history supporting the sport of running and New York City. During the 111th Millrose Games the Rudin family sponsored the women’s 4x800 relay which culminated in a world record. Wilson has set the American indoor record in the last two Jack & Lewis Rudin Women’s 800m.

“We are honored to be associated with the 114th Millrose Games and the Women’s 800m with track & field champions Athing Mu and Ajee' Wilson,” said Eric and Bill Rudin. “With their recent international and national success and their ties to the metropolitan area, Athing and Ajee' are perfect ambassadors to women’s track & field.

“Our fathers were extremely devoted to New York City and the sport of running and sponsoring this event in their names continues to be a fitting tribute.”

The Millrose Games is the most storied event in indoor track and field. Stay tuned over the coming months as more athletes are announced for the 114th Millrose Games. U.S. Olympic Trials champions and Tokyo Olympic finalists Elle Purrier St. Pierre and Cole Hocker were the first two athletes to be announced for the 2022 women’s and men’s WHOOP Wanamaker Miles, respectively. They will be a part of the two signature events of the Millrose Games. Last week the world’s top two shot put athletes and Tokyo Olympic gold and silver medalists Ryan Crouser and Joe Kovacs confirmed they will return to the Millrose Games for the Thorne Men’s Shot Put.

Millrose Games alumni earned 29 medals at the Tokyo Olympics, including 13 gold medals. With highest-level competition at the youth, high school, collegiate, club, and professional levels, there is truly something for everyone at the Millrose Games.

The 114th Millrose Games is anticipated to be the most thrilling edition of the meet to date, with dozens of Olympians competing on The Armory's “Fastest Track in the World.”

About the Rudin Family

The Rudin Family has long supported running in New York City and is best known for the Samuel Rudin Trophy, presented since 1976 to the winning male and female runners in the TCS New York City Marathon. His sons, Jack and Lewis, honored their late father by becoming the first sponsors of the five borough New York City Marathon. Now their sons, Eric and Bill, along with their children and grandchildren, carry on this tradition by sponsoring the Women’s 800m in memory of Jack and Lewis at the 114th Millrose Games. The Rudin Family’s real estate holdings are 16 commercial office buildings containing approximately 10.5 million square feet of space and 17 apartment buildings comprising over four million square feet of residences.
