NEW YORK, NY, Jan. 21, 2022 – Olympian and multiple NCAA champion Tara Davis hopes to take her long jump talents to great lengths during the 114th Millrose Games at The Armory’s New Balance Track & Field Center on January 29th.

Davis was a two-time NCAA champion in the long jump while competing for the University of Texas. She currently holds the NCAA record of 7.14 meters in the event. Davis placed second at last year’s Olympic Trials, earning a trip to Tokyo where she finished sixth in the Olympic final. She will compete at the Millrose Games alongside her fiancé Hunter Woodhall, scheduled to race in the Men’s 400m.

“I can't wait to return to The Armory after almost 5 years,” said Davis. “This will be the first time that Hunter and I will compete together as professional athletes, so doing it at the Millrose Games will make the experience even better. I have followed Millrose for years, and now it will become an event that will always hold a special place in my heart.”

Davis will face stiff competition from Great Britain’s Jazmin Sawyers, who finished eighth at the Olympics. Sawyers has also earned silver medals at both the European Championships and the Commonwealth Games.

Another athlete to watch is Keturah Orji, the U.S. record-holder, Olympic finalist, and seven-time NCAA champion in the triple jump. Orji will test her abilities in the long jump, an event where she won an additional NCAA title in 2018.

Also scheduled to compete is Sha’Keela Saunders, the USATF long jump national champion in 2018. She will be joined by NCAA and NACAC champion Quanesha Burks and three-time NCAA All-American Tiffany Flynn.

Athletes confirmed for the 114th Millrose Games include:

Millrose Games Champions Return: Michael Saruni Takes Aim at Mike Frankfurt Invitational 800m; Donavan Brazier Set for Invitational 400m

NEW YORK, NY, Jan. 19, 2022 – Two highly featured men’s races will take place at the 114th Millrose Games on Saturday, January 29th at The Armory New Balance Track & Field Center: The Mike Frankfurt Invitational Men’s 800m and the Invitational Men’s 400m.

The Men’s 800m is headlined by Michael Saruni, the 2019 Millrose Games 800m champion. His mark of 1:43.98 in that race is the third-fastest indoor performance in history. Saruni is also the former world record holder in the indoor 600m and the 2018 NCAA 800m champion, and he represented Kenya at the Tokyo Olympics.

“It will be really great to come back to The Armory and the Millrose Games where I had such a great winning race,” Saruni said.

Bryce Hoppel returns to Millrose after placing second in the 800m in 2020. Hoppel qualified for the final at the 2019 World Championships, placing fourth, before reaching the semifinals at last summer’s Olympics. Also competing is Hoppel’s Team USA compatriot Isaiah Jewett, who was the 2021 NCAA 800m champion before running in Tokyo.

Four other Olympians will take part in this race, including Charlie Hunter of Australia, who also won a pair of NCAA titles while at the University of Oregon. He will be joined by a pair of national record holders: Jesus Tonatiu Lopez of Mexico, and Saul Ordoñez Gavela of Spain. Mark English of Ireland is a two-time Olympian and three-time European Championship medalist. Rounding out the field is the experienced Isaiah Harris, who won at the London Diamond League meet last summer.

One notable name who is missing in the 800m is defending world champion and American record holder Donavan Brazier. Brazier, who set the indoor 800m American record in his victory at the 2020 Millrose Games, has instead opted for the Men’s 400m. This will be Brazier’s first race since suffering an injury at the Olympic Trials last June, and all eyes will be on the middle-distance superstar as he plots his comeback.

“I’m really excited about running the 400m at Millrose,” Brazier said. “I look forward to the challenge, and it is also part of our plan for continued improvement in the 800 meters.”

Brazier will face a stiff challenge in the form of Jamaica’s Christopher Taylor, who finished sixth in last summer’s Olympic final. Another athlete to watch will be Vernon Norwood, a mainstay on the 400m circuit who placed fourth in the Zurich Diamond League final. Also competing is the inspirational Hunter Woodhall, a double amputee who is a three-time Paralympic medalist and three-time NCAA All-American.

Athletes confirmed for the 114th Millrose Games include:

  • Defending champion Elle Purrier St. Pierre and 2019 champion Konstanze Klosterhalfen will highlight the WHOOP Women’s Wanamaker Mile. This signature race includes all three athletes who represented the United States in the Tokyo Olympic 1500m.

  • Olympic gold medalist and American outdoor record holder Athing Mu, American indoor record holder and Olympian Ajee' Wilson and Jamaica middle-distance sensation and Olympian Natoya Goule-Toppin who will be competing in the highly anticipated Jack and Lewis Rudin Women’s 800m.

  • Cole Hocker, Edward Cheserek, and Conner Mantz headline a Who’s Who of NCAA champions and Olympian distance runners in the Men’s 3000m.

  • World record holder Keni Harrison leads a Women’s 60m Hurdles field that features six Olympians.

  • Alicia Monson, Olympian and 2019 Millrose Games champion, is fresh off a January 9th USATF Cross Country title and will be challenged by recent USATF Cross Country runner-up Weini Kelati in the Millrose Games Women’s 3000.

  • Olympic bronze medalist Gabby Thomas is the headliner in the Women’s 60m

Alicia Monson and Weini Kelati Will Battle Again at 114th Millrose Games

Alicia Monson is all smiles after finishing first during the 2019 Millrose Games Women’s 3000m. Monson recently won the USATF Cross Country Championships, and she’ll expect a strong challenge from USATF Cross Country runner-up Weini Kelati during the 114th Millrose Games at The Armory New Balance Track & Field Center. NEW YORK, NY, Jan. 18, 2022 – The 114th Millrose Games are less than two weeks away, scheduled for Saturday, January 29th at The Armory’s New Balance Track & Field Center. Dozens of Olympians and world-class fields have already been announced for this historic event, and several more will join them in the Women’s 3000m.

Leading this outstanding field will be Alicia Monson and Weini Kelati, fresh off their January 9th duel at the USATF Cross Country Championships where they finished first and second, respectively.

Monson is a 2020 Olympian in the 10,000m and the 2019 Millrose Games champion in the 3000m. While competing for the University of Wisconsin, Monson won five Big Ten titles and was the 2019 NCAA champion in the 5000m. Most recently, she won the USATF cross country title in convincing fashion, earning her first victory since turning professional.

“I’m so thankful to be competing again at Millrose,” Monson said. “Winning the 3000m at my first Millrose Games was a pivotal moment in my running career, and I’ve enjoyed returning and feeling the amazing energy at The Armory. I’m excited to compete and watch some of the loaded fields.”

Kelati finished second behind Monson in San Diego, following an extremely impressive 2021 season where she became the USATF Road 5k champion. The former New Mexico Lobo won two NCAA championships and was a 13-time All-American during her college career. The Eritrean-born Kelati recently earned her U.S. citizenship, making her a major factor on the national scene for years to come.

Monson and Kelati will be challenged by a formidable group that includes four additional NCAA champions. Whittni Orton will be a contender after winning the 2021 NCAA cross country title, and the former BYU Cougar is looking to jumpstart her post-collegiate career. Her teammate Courtney Wayment Smith won the 3000m and anchored the victorious DMR at the 2021 NCAA indoor championships.

Dani Jones was a three-time NCAA champion at the University of Colorado and is one of the fastest collegiate 1500m runners in recent history. Elly Henes, formerly of North Carolina State, recently turned professional after winning the 2021 NCAA outdoor 5000m.

Another major contender will be 5000m Tokyo Olympian Rachel Schneider. In 2021, Schneider also became the fifth-fastest miler in American history. Three additional Olympians will also toe the line: Portuguese mile record holder Marta Pen Freitas, fourth-place finisher in the Tokyo Olympics’ 3000m steeplechase and Africa Games champion Mekides Abebe of Ethiopia, and Canadian 5000m runner Julie-Anne Staehli.

Other athletes set to compete include European indoor champion Amy-Eloise Markovc of Great Britain, Australian Olympic steeplechaser Amy Cashin, and two fifth placers at the most recent Olympic Trials in Allie Buchalski and Helen Schlachtenhaufen.

The Millrose Games is the most storied event in indoor track and field. Stay tuned over the coming weeks as more athletes are announced for the 114th Millrose Games. The Millrose Games is anticipated to be the most thrilling edition of the meet to date, with dozens of Olympians competing on The Armory's “Fastest Track in the World.”

Sprint Sensation Gabby Thomas to Highlight Women’s 60m Dash during 114th Millrose Games

NEW YORK, NY, Jan. 13, 2022 – Two-time Olympic medalist Gabby Thomas is one of three Olympians slated to compete in the 114th Millrose Games Women’s 60m Dash, scheduled for Saturday, January 29th at The Armory New Balance Track & Field Center.

Thomas ran a spectacular time of 21.61 seconds to win the 200m at last year’s Olympic Trials, making her the third-fastest woman in history. She backed up that performance by claiming the bronze medal in Tokyo, competing in a historically deep final, before adding a silver medal on the 4x100m relay. Thomas, who graduated from Harvard University, won 22 Ivy League titles during her collegiate career, and was the 2018 NCAA champion in the 200m.

“I’m excited to open my 2022 season at Millrose in the 60m,” Thomas said. “It’ll be a great opportunity to work on my speed against some of the top competition in the country.”

Thomas will be challenged by some of the world’s best sprinters, including Briana Williams.

Williams is one of the brightest fledgling superstars in sprinting, becoming the youngest athlete to win double gold in the 100m and 200m at the 2018 World Junior Championships. The 19-year-old running sensation won Olympic gold as part of Jamaica’s 4x100m relay, running a national record and the third-fastest time ever.

Two-time Olympian English Gardner returns to the Millrose Games after winning the 60m in 2019. Her 100m best of 10.74 seconds ranks eighth on the all-time list, and she won a gold medal on the 4x100m relay at the 2016 Olympics.

Completing the field will be 2020 NCAA champion Mikiah Brisco, 2019 World Championships 4x100m bronze medalist Kiara Parker, and 2019 NCAA runner-up Chloe Abbott. Also scheduled to compete against the pros is high school standout Shawnti Jackson out of Raleigh, NC. Jackson will be chasing the national high school record of 7.19 seconds, set by Tamari Davis in 2020.

The Millrose Games is the most storied event in indoor track and field. Stay tuned over the coming weeks as more athletes are announced for the 114th Millrose Games. Allyson Felix to Receive The Armory Presidents’ Award during 114th Millrose Games

Five-time Olympian and winner of 11 Olympic medals including seven gold medals, Allyson Felix will receive The Armory Presidents’ Award during the 114th Millrose Games at The Armory New Balance Track & Field Center. Photo by Kirby Lee.

NEW YORK, NY, Jan. 12, 2022 – Rita Finkel and Jonathan Schindel, Co-Presidents of The Armory Foundation, are pleased to announce that living legend Allyson Felix will be this year’s recipient of The Armory Presidents’ Award during the 114th Millrose Games on Saturday, January 29th. This honor recognizes those who have made extraordinary contributions to both The Armory and to the sport of track and field as a whole.

“Allyson is such a perfect choice for this year’s award,” Finkel said. “On and off the track, she has shown the world courage, tenacity, and grace. The planet is a better, more equitable place for women because of her tireless efforts. We are delighted to have her join us this year for the Millrose Games.”

Felix is unquestionably one of the greatest track athletes who has ever lived. With seven gold medals and 11 total medals earned across five consecutive Olympic Games, Felix is the most decorated woman and American in Olympic track and field history. Felix has also won 13 gold medals and 18 total medals in her eight World Championship appearances, giving her the most medals in championship history, male or female. Felix’s 200m personal best of 21.69 is the seventh-fastest in history, and her relay split of 47.72 in the 4x400m relay at the 2015 World Championships is the third-fastest ever. In 2016, Felix won the 60m dash at the Millrose Games.

“The Armory is somewhere that has always been so special for me to compete at,” said Felix. “The last time I competed, my daughter Camryn was able to watch, and I can’t imagine a better last competition at The Armory. To be able to come back again and to be honored with this award is such an incredible feeling and honor. I’m excited to see the amazing crowd and watch the incredible competition.”

Despite her monumental legacy in the sport, Felix’s activism off the track may prove to be even more impactful. In December 2018, Felix gave birth to her daughter Camryn. Shortly before childbirth, doctors discovered that Felix had pre-eclampsia, a potentially fatal blood pressure condition that disproportionately impacts Black women. After delivering her daughter via emergency C-section, Felix testified before the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee on the topic of the Black maternal mortality crisis.

The next year, Felix penned an op-ed for The New York Times accusing her athletic shoe sponsor of refusing to guarantee salary protections for athletes following childbirth, echoing similar allegations made by Kara Goucher and Alysia Montano. Felix ultimately became the first athlete to be sponsored by the apparel company Athleta. In June 2021, Felix launched Saysh, her own footwear company designed for women.

In many ways, the 2021 season may have been the most remarkable of Felix’s two-decade career. Despite juggling training with her new obligations as a mother and her outspoken advocacy for the Black Lives Matter movement, Felix placed second in the 400m at the Olympic Trials to qualify for her fifth Olympic Games. While many doubted that she would be a major factor in Tokyo due to her age, she shocked the world by earning the bronze medal. She then concluded her Olympic career in style, winning gold on the 4x400m relay alongside Sydney McLaughlin, Dalilah Muhammad and Athing Mu.

Felix continues to train for international competition but is secure in her legacy as one of the greatest and most inspiring athletes ever, not just in track and field but in any sport. There will never be another figure quite like Allyson Felix.

The ceremony to honor Felix will take place at 2:20 p.m. on the center of the infield at the Millrose Games.

Olympic Bronze Medalist Josh Kerr, Olympic Finalist Ollie Hoare Clash in WHOOP Men's Wanamaker Mile Field

Josh Kerr (1) and Ollie Hoare are confirmed to compete in the WHOOP Men’s Wanamaker Mile during the 114th Millrose Games at The Armory New Balance Track & Field Center. Kerr photo by John Nepolitan; Hoare photo by Kirby Lee.

NEW YORK, NY, Jan. 11, 2022 – Scottish Olympic bronze medalist Josh Kerr and Australia Olympian finalist Ollie Hoare will lead the charge for the signature WHOOP Men’s Wanamaker Mile in the 114th Millrose Games

The highly anticipated signature event of the Millrose Games will take place January 29th at The Armory New Balance Track & Field Center.

“The WHOOP Wanamaker Mile is one of the most renowned races in all of track & field, and this year’s version promises to be one of the great races ever,” said Millrose Games Meet Director Ray Flynn.

Kerr became the second fastest 1500m runner out of Great Britain ever with his medal-winning run in Tokyo. While competing at the University of New Mexico, Kerr was the 2018 NCAA champion in the mile.

“The Wanamaker Mile has always been a staple in my indoor season, there is no race like it,” said Kerr. “I’m rested and ready to get ‘stuck in’ after a successful Olympics.”

Hoare placed second in the 2020 Wanamaker Mile and reached the Olympic final in Tokyo this past summer. Hoare was the 2018 NCAA 1500m champion while at the University of Wisconsin, taking down Kerr in the process.

“The Wanamaker Mile is one of the most prestigious indoor mile races in the world,” said Hoare. “To be able to go and compete again for the third time in this event is a privilege. [Coach Dathan Ritzenhein] and I are happy with where I am right now and I'm confident that I can take on whatever comes at me. Don't be surprised if you see some very fast mile times come out of New York.”

Five-time Olympian Nick Willis of New Zealand will join the mix. The 38-year-old Willis, who in the 1500m won the silver medal in 2008 Beijing Olympics and bronze in 2016 Rio Olympics, will be trying for a record 20th consecutive year for a sub-4 mile. On New Year’s Day at The Armory New Balance Track & Field Center he narrowly missed the record with a 4:00.22. Willis has finished as runner-up at the Wanamaker Mile three times (2009, 2015, 2016) and was third twice (2008, 2014).

There are talented Americans in the field, led by Clayton Murphy, the 2016 Olympic bronze medalist in the 800m. Murphy also won the 2021 Olympic Trials and reached the 800m final in Tokyo. He is no stranger to the mile distance, having placed third in the 2019 Wanamaker Mile.

Also set to compete is the 18-year-old phenom Hobbs Kessler out of Ann Arbor, MI. Kessler first broke the indoor high school mile record before erasing the outdoor 1500m record of the great Alan Webb.
