NYRR Millrose Games New Balance High School Miler: Lauren Chapey

As part of the lead up to the 107th NYRR Millrose Games, ArmoryTrack.com will be highlighting a number of student-athletes who have qualified for the New Balance High School Mile. The New Balance High School Mile has long been a staple at the NYRR Millrose Games, with past winners including sub-four minute miler Kyle Merber and 2013 IAAF World Championships qualifier Cory McGee. Today's spotlight is on Lauren Chapey.

ArmoryTrack.com: What's your greatest running achievement? 
Lauren Chapey: Qualifying for XC States this year after not running for two weeks due to a knee injury. I was so surprised and it was my first time qualifying for states. Qualifying for the Millrose Games this year is also up there!

ArmoryTrack.com: Best piece of advice someone's ever given you?
Lauren Chapey: “It’s all about being confident.”

ArmoryTrack.com: What are three keys to your running success?
Lauren Chapey: Staying determined, loving the sport, and having amazing coaches and an awesome team!

ArmoryTrack.com: Do you have any pre-race traditions or superstitions?
Lauren Chapey: I have a bunch. In 8th grade, every time I happened to smell mint before a race I would PR. Now I have other superstitions, but they don't work if I reveal them!

ArmoryTrack.com: Who is your favorite athlete?
Lauren Chapey: Mo Farah. Who doesn’t love the Mobot?

Lauren Chapey: Peanut butter on just about anything!

ArmoryTrack.com: If you could go on a run with anyone, past or present, who would it be with? 
Lauren Chapey: She’s only a year older than me, but probably Alexa Efraimson. I loved watching her NXN race this year and really admire her mental approach to running.

ArmoryTrack.com: What are your favorite hobbies?
Lauren Chapey: Reading, sailing in the summer, and playing with my dog, Tuggy.

Lauren Chapey: On Top of The World by Imagine Dragons

Lauren Chapey: Probably the Leatherstocking Trails in Mamaroneck, especially in the summer.

Lauren Chapey: A dog because they’re so adorable and always happy!

Lauren Chapey: I can't wait to be a part of the exciting atmosphere at Millrose and to compete with such an impressive field of runners. I am also looking forward to watching all the other amazing runners and races, especially Mary Cain and Alexa Efraimson in the NYRR Wanamaker Mile!
