NYRR Millrose Games New Balance High School Miler: Luke Gavigan

As part of the lead up to the 107th NYRR Millrose Games, ArmoryTrack.com will be highlighting a number of student-athletes who have qualified for the New Balance High School Mile. The New Balance High School Mile has long been a staple at the NYRR Millrose Games, with past winners including sub-four minute miler Kyle Merber and 2013 IAAF World Championships qualifier Cory McGee. Today's spotlight is on New York's Luke Gavigan.

Luke Gavigan: Qualifying for the Millrose Games. It’s a dream come true.

ArmoryTrack.com: Best piece of advice someone's ever given you?
Luke Gavigan: My coach always tells me “Take a shot.”

ArmoryTrack.com: What are three keys to your running success?
Luke Gavigan: Running with confidence, putting in the work, and supportive coaches and teammates

ArmoryTrack.com: Do you have any pre-race traditions/superstitions?
Luke Gavigan: Not really, I just try to relax and get in the zone.

ArmoryTrack.com: Who is your favorite athlete?
Luke Gavigan: Lopez Lomong because he has such a great story and I had the chance to meet him at last years’ Millrose Games and the 5th Avenue Mile. But I’m a fan of many professional runners.

ArmoryTrack.com: Favorite Pre-Race Meal?
Luke Gavigan: I eat a big bowl of pasta the night before every race.

ArmoryTrack.com: If you could go on a run with anyone, past or present, who would it be with?
Luke Gavigan: Louis Zamperini. It would be interesting to hear his unbelievable stories.

ArmoryTrack.com: What are your favorite hobbies?
Luke Gavigan: Camping, running, and traveling.

ArmoryTrack.com: Favorite song?
Luke Gavigan: I don’t know if I can pick one, but I like to listen to Kid Cudi, Jay-Z, and of course Taylor Swift.

ArmoryTrack.com: What is your favorite place to run? 
Luke Gavigan: The Sparkill Trail- it’s an eight mile out and back trail near my house.

ArmoryTrack.com: If you could be any animal, what would it be? 
Luke Gavigan: A monkey because they can climb trees and they are adventurous.

Luke Gavigan: We Are the Miller’s

ArmoryTrack.com: Favorite TV show?
Luke Gavigan: I don’t watch too much TV, but I was a big Man vs. Wild fan
