NYRR Millrose Games Miler: Tim McGowan

As part of the lead up to the 107th NYRR Millrose Games, ArmoryTrack.com will be highlighting a number of student-athletes who have qualified for the New Balance High School Mile. The New Balance High School Mile has long been a staple at the NYRR Millrose Games, with past winners including sub-four minute miler Kyle Merber and 2013 IAAF World Championships qualifier Cory Mcgee. Today's spotlight is on New York's Tim McGowan.

ArmoryTrack.com: What's your greatest running achievement? 
Tim McGowan: Getting to qualify for NXN [Nike Cross Nationals] was amazing. I was really proud that my teammates were able to pull off a great race and making what could have been my last cross country race something great.

ArmoryTrack.com: Best piece of advice someone's ever given you? 
Tim McGowan: My old captain Tim Odin and my coach told me to never sell myself short or limit myself.

ArmoryTrack.com: What are three keys to your running success? 
Tim McGowan: Trust my coach, be confident but never cocky, and little things matter when training.

ArmoryTrack.com: Do you have any pre-race traditions/superstitions? 
Tim McGowan: I'm not sure if it's the Irish in me, but I'm a very superstitious person. one that comes to mind is that my best friend texts me good luck before every race and if I don't get the text before I warm up I begin to panic.

ArmoryTrack.com: Who is your favorite athlete? 
Tim McGowan: Galen Rupp 

ArmoryTrack.com: Favorite Pre-Race Meal? 
Tim McGowan: My pre-race meals usually revolve around peanut butter.

ArmoryTrack.com: If you could go on a run with anyone, past or present, who would it be with?
Tim McGowan: I would run with my assistant coach Bob Burklee. He is always full of thought provoking stories about track.

ArmoryTrack.com: What are your favorite hobbies? 
Tim McGowan: Playing and listening to music, frisbee and running.

ArmoryTrack.com: Favorite song?
Tim McGowan: In Too Deep by Sum 41 always got me psyched

ArmoryTrack.com: What is your favorite place to run? 
Tim McGowan: Bellerose bike trails

ArmoryTrack.com: If you could be any animal, what would you be? 
Tim McGowan: A dog, they've got it made.

Tim McGowan: The Boondock Saints or Fight Club

Tim McGowan: How I Met Your Mother or The Walking Dead

ArmoryTrack.com: What are you most looking forward to about the NYRR Millrose Games?  
Tim McGowan: Mostly being at the meet and watching all the professionals run. Being in that environment is an honor.
