NYRR Millrose Games Miler: Mady Clahane

As part of the lead up to the 107th NYRR Millrose Games, ArmoryTrack.com will be highlighting a number of student-athletes who have qualified for the New Balance High School Mile. The New Balance High School Mile has long been a staple at the NYRR Millrose Games, with past winners including sub-four minute miler Kyle Merber and 2013 IAAF World Championships qualifier Cory Mcgee. Today's spotlight is on Pennsylvania's Mady Clahane.

ArmoryTrack.com: What's your greatest running achievement?
Mady Clahane: Probably qualifying for the Millrose Games!

ArmoryTrack.com: Best piece of advice someone's ever given you?
Mady Clahane: My favorite piece of advice was from a quote that Kara Goucher said, which was "Be brave enough to bet on you."

ArmoryTrack.com: What are three keys to your running success?
Mady Clahane: One key is that I think that I am very dedicated to what I do. I try to give 100% in every race, workout, or practice that I have. On days that we don't have school practice, I am always still out running whatever my coach told me to do. Also, I am never satisfied with where I am. It doesn't matter what place I get or how I'm doing, I always want to achieve more and train harder to be a better runner. I think that the last key is that I love what I do. Although it can be stressful and challenging, running is the best thing that has happened to my life. If you don't love what you do, you'll never reach your full potential. I always end the day with a smile on my face, because I'm happy with what I have achieved and I'm excited to see what I can do in the future.

ArmoryTrack.com: Do you have any pre-race traditions/superstitions?
Mady Clahane: I have a LOT of pre-race superstitions! One is that I always have to eat the same breakfast every race day, which has to include a banana! I always have to eat spaghetti the night before as well. I basically have to wear the same clothes every race day too. I have lot of lucky items, including a lucky mismatched pair of socks and a lucky sports bra. I'm very superstitious when it comes to races!

ArmoryTrack.com: Who is your favorite athlete?
Mady Clahane: I can't choose between Jordan Hasay, Mary Cain, and Kara Goucher!

ArmoryTrack.com: Favorite Pre-Race Meal?
Mady Clahane: Spaghetti

ArmoryTrack.com: If you could go on a run with anyone, past or present, who would it be with?
Mady Clahane: Mary Cain

ArmoryTrack.com: What are your favorite hobbies?
Mady Clahane: I've been playing the flute since 4th grade!

ArmoryTrack.com: Favorite song?
Mady Clahane: Hall of Fame

ArmoryTrack.com: What is your favorite place to run?
Mady Clahane: I love running on trails near my house, such as the Scott's Farm trail or the Boiling Springs trail.

ArmoryTrack.com: If you could be any animal, what would it be?
Mady Clahane: A cat

ArmoryTrack.com: Favorite Movie?
Mady Clahane: Mamma Mia

ArmoryTrack.com: Favorite TV show?
Mady Clahane: Dance Moms

ArmoryTrack.com: What are you most looking forward to about the Millrose Games?
Mady Clahane: I'm just really excited to see how well I'll do in a big race like this- it's probably the biggest one I've been in! The opportunity is huge, and I hope that I can take advantage of it. I hope that it will be a learning experience for me too, and that I can learn from this for the next two years of high school. I can't wait to run with such amazing girls, and afterwards I just can't wait to say that I ran at the Millrose Games!
